ZAE is a zipped Collada-based format and may include textures and linked assets.
Packaging files can have special label materials, UVs and texture setups, so results can vary between viewers.

Can textures be preserved?

Texture preservation depends on the input format. GLB, GLTF ZIP, USDZ and OBJ ZIP are usually better choices for textured workflows than STL or PLY.
